It’s a brand new 2014 model, so the local shop has it pretty deeply discounted. If the ride goes well, I’ll pretty much HAVE to buy it.

Yeah, you pretty much do have to buy it.

I have been riding for over a decade but have never owned or even ridden a proper sportbike. I have been kicking around the idea of getting one while I’m still relatively young just to have the experience. That Duc would definitely be a great choice!

I was going to ask if it was a 600 or 1000, but I saw in your reply below it’s the 600.

I should probably just go ahead and congratulate you on your new bike :) Hondas are fantastic and I think you’re going to love it. I had a CBR1000RR for a number of years and it was an amazing machine. I think Honda makes the best street sportbike out there. The riding position is slightly more relaxed, the power band is a bit broader, at the expense of peak power. It makes for the kind of sport bike you WANT to ride hard and often and for long distances. I’ve ridden R6's, R1's, Gixxers of every flavor, and one of the old Kawa 636, and I’d still pick a Honda.

In fact it may be in the cards next year (this year is house buying year). We shall see.

Yeah, I mean, brand new at 8500 sticker is pretty hard to pass up. Having sat on all the main supersports, the CBR definitely seems the most liveable. It may not be the dead sexiest (Triumph), but I’m sure it’s more reliable, and it’s definitely more comfortable. As I said, if I enjoy it on the ride, it’ll probably be at home tonight.

How much of a discount did you get, if you don’t mind me asking? When we bought our Grom a couple months ago, we found a few dealers who still had several new 2014s and they wouldn’t budge at all.

They’ve got it at 8500 right now, I think 16s are 11500? Now that’s sticker, so we’ve still got to work out hard numbers. But that’s a hell of a good start!

I’m kind of surprised that the Groms aren’t discounted, but I guess the demographics on buyers are different? I imagine sportbike riders are a lot more interested in newest and fastest than grom riders. Do you like the Grom? I’m trying to talk my dad into getting one as a ranch bike (not a dirt bike, just a basic bike to run around on for errands).

That sounds like a good deal! Congratulations!

We went elsewhere and got a new 2015 for less than the non-discounted 2014s (because the dealer we bought from also had much lower added fees). Regardless of demographics I’m surprised that multiple dealers were willing to let old inventory hang around.

The boy loves it but I actually haven’t ridden it yet. I won’t ride when it’s cold out, and I’m nervous anyway because I haven’t been on a manual bike since I took the state safety course four years ago and then ended up buying an automatic scooter.
